4/27/2023 0 Comments Just cause 2 pc release![]() Just Cause 4 is the latest game in the franchise, and although it has some fancy graphics and a new dynamic weather system, there are a few detracting elements that put its placement further down our list. Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Just Cause 4 – Launch Trailer | PS4 () Even with these downsides considered, we still recommend giving the first Just Cause a try. The animations aren’t the best either, so expect some wonky character movement and odd collisions. While the first Just Cause is an entertaining sandbox experience, it lacks polish and has a fair share of bugs and glitches. There are also hundreds of side activities to complete in addition to main story missions, but things have a habit of getting repetitive. Most of the game revolves around exploring the fictional Caribbean Island of San Esperito, ruled by the unfeeling dictator Salvador Mendoza. In this debut adventure, we’re introduced to our series’ protagonist Rico Rodriguez, a deadly special agent with a habit of blowing things up first and asking questions later. The original Just Cause first hit shelves in 2006, and despite its age, it is still an enjoyable game over a decade later. Such fun traversal basically ensures that the rest of the game is fun as hell, even when you're engaging in the worst excesses of modern Open World gameplay.Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Just Cause Trailer () I haven't played it on keyboard, so I dunno how it feels in that front.īottom line: traversing in JC2 is just fun. The gunplay is perfectly fine, and quite satisfying honestly-on a controller, there's liberal auto-aim ensuring that you never feel like you're firing blindly. Panau is so goddamn big that if it were a real country it would be larger than some real-life counties. I love the Southeast Asian feel to everything, and there's a good amount of variety from snowy mountains to swampy jungle to acrid desert. Avalanche has even put little secrets and unique areas, from the racetrack of Bandar Sekeleh to the Gunung Hotel Ski Resort. ![]() Yeah, it's not as lovingly hand-crafted as BotW or GTAV but fuck me if getting on a mountain and seeing literal miles into the distance isn't stunning. JC2 might be the poster child of "Quantity has a quality all of its own". I'm a sucker for the little quaint villages dotting its islands, and you can't deny that the sheer scale of the country is staggering, especially when flying across in a high-speed jet. It's the same reason being able to climb goddamn anything in BotW is fun and refreshing-because you rarely get this much freedom in open-world games.Īnd to be honest, for all of its copy-pasted buildings and lifeless citizens, I can't help but be amazed by Panau. Grappling onto to the lip of a building and deplying his parachute to fly over the side, and then grappling to other objects in the area to pull yourself along at high speeds never gets old. Rico, on the other hand, can get practically anywhere, extremely fast. Other open-world games make traversal a boring slog with stamina meters or an incredibly limited moveset. Rico's grappling hook and wingsuit mean that you can practically fly across the environment, meaning that going around finding shit to blow up and stuff to collect is just plain fun. And I think the reason for this is really simple: Just Cause 2 is really fun to move around in. JC2 is half destroying stuff and half going around looking at your radar to collect little trinkets.Īnd yet, it works. There are Baby Panay statues to topple, propaganda machines to destroy, races to beat, and military commanders to kill. There are three kinds of collectibles which aren't on your map as well, each having a hundred each examples across the map. ![]() The game often throws a billion side challenges like races over the map. Every settlement has upgrade items and cash drops to collect and things to destroy. The Collectathon never died: it just became the modern open-world game, and by god does JC2 have COLLECTIBLES. Its mission design is often incredibly simple and mostly consists of "go here, pick this up/kill shit, and do it again".Īnd JC2 might be the poster child for the kind of icon vomit and collectible-deluge that defines modern open world. Its world is near-lifeless and the citizenry do nothing but walk around and run away from firefights. Panau is a gigantic heightmap dotted in copy-pasted villages, cities, and military bases. While playing through it, something really stuck out to me: JC2 is beloved by many (including myself), yet it shouldn't even work. I recently started a new profile in the PC version of Just Cause 2.
